The New Pornographers Announce New Album The Former Site Of

The New Pornographers have announced a new album, The Former Site Of, out on March 27th via Merge Records. They’ve also revealed the new song “Votive” along with its music video.

The Former Site Of serves as The New Pornographers’ 10th studio album. The record was written by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist A.C. Newman in his home studio before bringing the songs to the full band, which is rounded out by Neko Case, Kathryn Calder, John Collins, Todd Fancey, and new drummer Charley Drayton.

“Having time in my studio really opened things up,” said Newman in a press release of making the new album. “I don’t like wasting my bandmates’ time, and always felt guilty when I’d give them a song, ask them to do something, then completely change the song and ask them to do it again. Now I can get the skeleton of a song together first — just a couple of elements, the key feeling, really as little as possible — before bringing it to the band and running from there.”

The Canadian group has offered “Votive,” the latest single off The Former Site Of following last year’s “Ballad Of The Last Payphone.” Rooted in an expansive keyboard line, “Votive” lifts off and soars; Newman and Calder harmonize on the central hook, “I didn’t see you there,” as the song gains momentum and transforms into a majestic jam. The track also arrives with a video animated by Michael Arthur. Watch it below.

The New Pornographers are celebrating the release of The Former Site Of with a lengthy 2026 tour. They’ll kick off the US run on April 22nd in Boston, followed by shows in cities like New York, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta, and more. The run ends in Washington D.C. on May 21st. Will Sheff of Okkervil River will support the band for the duration of the tour. Tickets are available now via Ticketmaster and the band’s official website.

The Former Site Of follows The New Pornographers’ 2023 album Continue as a Guest. It’s the band’s first album since the firing of drummer Joseph Seiders, who was arrested in 2025 for possession of child pornography.
